✂ Imagine being cut from Team GB ✂ … the same year as the Olympics … 😲 😢
… that’s what happened to my next guest, Rio Olympian, Jono Clegg OLY 😭
I loved my chat with Jono Clegg OLY as part of The Sporting Transition Podcast, because this incredibly difficult time actually had two unbelievably powerful consequences;
1️⃣ It took him away from the pressures of the elite centre; to reset and refocus, knowing what’s best for his mind and body.
🎯 Result: A plane ticket to 🇧🇷 Rio ’16 in the lightweight men’s four 🚣♂️ 🛫 🎉
2️⃣ It opened up his eyes to a world beyond sport, acting as a catalyst to explore options beyond rowing.
🎯 Result: CV prepared and ready, encouraging conversations made Jono feel confident he had options beyond rowing and that his identify wasn’t only that of a rower.
The ‘thinking’ of transitioning away from sport is always nuanced, but I don’t think I’ve had a guest where the ‘moment’ to start ‘thinking’ was as clear as it was for Jono.
Former Ospreys lock Lloyd Ashley shares how early setbacks shaped his mindset around life after rugby, and how curiosity, education and vulnerability helped him build a purposeful career supporting player wellbeing.
Jackson Wray shares how he planned his transition years in advance, building education, networks and practical experience alongside 300 plus Saracens appearances to create a new career with clarity and purpose.
